CANCER ?
The name is good enough to create the panic
deep inside the common man. Once the individual in a family diagnosed about this
ghastly disease, it creates many doubts in whole of the family, leading to
mental situation, which only the sufferer can appreciate. The light of glamour
comes, if somebody tells that this is not the end. There are still miles to go.
Oncology department of Kamayani hospital is doing lots of work in this
field.
As with all cancers, early
detection is the single most important factor in treating and possibly curing
cancer. The earlier that cancer is caught, the less drastic the treatment will
have to be, and the greater the chance of a full cure will be.

Cancer
in developing countries, specially India, it is due to the fact that
over 70% cases are detected late and report for the treatment in very
advanced stage. This disease gets worse with the delay in the treatment.
This is mainly due to unawareness about the disease. It is estimated
that there are around 2.5 million cases of cancer in India itself and
around 6,00,000 patients are diagnosed every year. This statistics is
increasing day by day. |

With the objective of prevention and early detection of all type of cancers
the Kamayani Patients ltd. set up the department of Oncology, having all
advanced equipments. Ever since, the Department of Oncology has been raising
awareness and concern about cancer and affirming the prevention and curability
of cancers if detected early. As the awareness level of cancer rises, the health
seeking behavior towards early detection will increase and consequently the
cancer load in the country will begin to decline.

The principal approach to curing cancer is to remove all malignant cells by a
surgical operation. In the past this meant the removal of all involved tissue
and as much potentially involved tissue as possible, including adjacent tissues
and lymph nodes. For some tumors, notably cancer of the breast, radical surgery
like mastectomy is not always necessary. Refinements in surgical techniques,
improved knowledge of physiology, advances in anesthesiology, readily available
blood products, and potent antibiotics have permitted less extensive surgery
with more rapid recovery and less disability.
Many cancers, though, are too advanced at the time of diagnosis to permit
cure by surgery. Even when it is clear that a surgical cure is impossible,
however, surgery may help relieve symptoms or reduce the tumor’s size to
improve the response to subsequent radiation or chemotherapy. Kamayani hospital
provides all type of Oncological surgeries.

Chemotherapy is the use of drugs in the treatment of cancer. Since a drug is
distributed throughout the body by the bloodstream, chemotherapy is useful for
tumors that have spread beyond the area accessible by surgery or radiation
therapy. The dosage of an anticancer drug taken to treat the disease is limited
primarily by the severity of these side effects involving the gastrointestinal
tract and bone marrow.
Chemotherapy may be used with surgery or radiation in combined modality
therapy. It is often used as an adjuvant—that is, to increase
the effect of the treatment—when surgery is the primary therapy. As such it is
usually given after surgery. This treatment is most effective against tumors that
have metastasized or would recur after surgery or radiation therapy alone. |
